Artist Biography
Montell Jordan was a ‘90s R&B sensation whose string of hits includes the 1995 No. 1 smash “This Is How We Do It.”
• The L.A. native found his passion for music by playing the piano and singing at his local Baptist church. He signed with Def Jam Records—a label known primarily for hip-hop—in 1995.
• The singer’s 1995 debut album This Is How We Do It that peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. The title track and lead single topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks.
• Don’t call Jordan a one-hit wonder. He reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 1998’s “Let’s Ride,” featuring Master P and Silkk the Shocker, and returned to the Top 5 with 1999’s “Get It On Tonite.”
• Jordan has written and produced for artists like Christina Milian, 98 Degrees, Deborah Cox, Lil' Mo, and Sisqó.
• In 2010, he took a hiatus from music to serve as lead worship pastor at the Victory World Church in Norcross, Georgia.
• He returned to music in 2019 and released his eighth album, Masterpeace.
