Artist Biography
Hailing from Australia but with a heart rooted in India, Pav Dharia is a Punjabi musician and choreographer.
• Pav Dharia was born in Sydney in 1989 to a Sikh family.
• Growing up, he took inspiration from Indian legends like A. R. Rahman and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
• Dharia first rose to prominence with his initial solo singles in 2012 before dropping his debut album, Red, the following year. Packed with big-hitting collaborations and Dharia’s signature vocals over slick beats, it became one of the best-selling LPs in India.
• In 2014, Dharia received a PTC Punjabi Music Award for Best Non-Resident Music Director.
• Dharia’s heritage has played a part in his musical progression. Western sounds like rock and R&B can be heard on some of his biggest tracks. See, for instance, the thumping hip-hop beat that anchors his 2018 collaboration with Khan Saab, “Zindagi Tere Naal”.
• Since 2019, Dharia has performed the Indian national anthem at the Sydney Cricket Ground ahead of test matches. His soaring take on the song evokes a visibly emotional response from the Indian players.
