Sputnik is an alt-rock band formed in Mexico City in 2003 by Pepe (voice, guitar), Rodrigo (bass), El Ruso (guitar), and Jorge (drums). The group played the local indie scene for a couple of years and in 2007 recorded its first EP, Deja de Soñar. The band's debut album, Sputnik, appeared in 2011. Shortly after releasing the Lugares Perdidos EP in 2012, El Ruso left the band. Now a power trio with a consolidated lineup and musical identity, Sputnik soldiered on with Monumentos (2014) and Gran Blanco (2016).
