Artist Biography
The underground rap outfit Subtle formed in 2001 between members of the Anticon music collective and employees of Berkeley, California’s Amoeba Music store. Featuring unique instrumentation (including woodwinds and cello), Subtle forged an experimental, indie rock-influenced sound on a series of 12” releases and EPs, before releasing the full-length A NEW WHITE in 2004. The group’s complex aesthetic (and rapper Doseone’s lyrics) evolved on ‘06’s FOR HERO: FOR FOOL. 2008 saw the release of their third full-length, EXITINGARM.
