It’s a story and true one
that oft times has been told
Save your money when your young
You’ll need it when your old
Now if you are a married man
I’ll tell you what to do
Support your wife and little ones
As you have sworn to do
Stay away from the pubs and bars
where liquors bought and sold
It’s there you’ll spend your money boys
You’ll need it when you’re old
But if you are a single lad
Now here’s what you should do
Court and marry son pretty girl
Who you’ll find fair and true
Be well aware that she’ll play fair
And never let her go
Stick to her when you are young
You’ll need her when you’re old
Once I was a handy man
And quite a lively lad
I threw away my money
until no more I had
For now I’m old and feeble
I’m left out in the cold
I wished I saved my money
For I need it now I’m old
