When the sun finally gives in, it kicks and protests
In shades of neon to let you know it isn't finished
It always does that
As if it knows that nothing makes you feel worse
Than typing in grey letters followed by an ellipsis
Sometimes you just gotta let it chew you up
And spit you back out in rhyme and triplet
One perfect sunset'll see me right
One that sets behind the steeples
And the spires of the old cathedrals
Sprott full of the cocktail bars that spawn live people
And I do miss it sometimes, what we had
Mostly when there isn't any music
But sometimes understandably when there is
Sometimes you need a room full of strangers
To make you feel less alone
A place dark enough to make yourself unknown
Unknowable, but home somehow
A place to hide somehow
At least
At least that's how it feels
And still it beckons out there on the horizon
Languidly winking
Letting me know that it knows exactly what I'm thinking
And laughs as my phone dies
Which is still the most dramatic thing you say, like, all the time
When my head's fried
My head's fried in rum and ginger beer
My body hurts inside, but my mind stays here
Kinda dark to see you in here actually
It's the sort of night you use to lie
And I do miss it sometimes, what we had
Mostly when there isn't any music
But sometimes understandably when there is
Sometimes you need a room full of strangers
To make you feel less alone
A place dark enough to make yourself unknown
Unknowable, but home somehow
A place to hide somehow
At least
At least that's how it feels
Yeah
I love you all, man
Honestly, I do
Yeah, I think I needed this
Sometimes you need a room full of strangers
To make you feel less alone
A place dark enough to make yourself unknown
Unknowable, but home somehow
A place to hide somehow
