Many lessons I have learned in my lifetime

things terrible to see and understand

things I'm glad to know

will probably help me in the end

and I will hide them as integrity demands

can't get time from locals they're all locking up their doors

maybe tomorrow

but there's a little bar round town with a piano

where the playboys of San Juan won't bring no girls

strange folks in that establishment

it's where I found the proof

of the inevitability of a strange world

I've been here a while but I ain't making friends

unless that's what you call em it depends

deviants and derelicts, journalists and drunks

I have been each of you

doctors and democrats, debutantes and punks
