Avoiding energy drain

Choosing happiness over pain

Finding sunshine in the rain

And the drifting snow

From memories that tear apart

Intrepidity for a new start

Healing both the soul and heart

Learning to let go

Drawing the line under desperation

Cannot fix what is broken in the past

Stop trying to control what cannot be controlled

Some good things were never meant to last

From old habits refrain

Grateful for what remains

Refuse to entertain old pain

Or let the hurting show

Unafraid to make mistakes

The chances I must take

Which hands to hold or only shake

Then learn to let go

Holding on costing my inner peace keeps self esteem low

Learning now to assertively and confidently say no

Crying tears to water seeds for the future I sow

Reward myself the opportunity and courage to grow

Casting off these chains

Transforming strength from pain

Learn to trust and love again

Step out from the shadow

Suffered time to mourn

Now from the dusk to dawn

Free as a newborn
