Potholes

I looked up and I saw you waving

You were giving blood for some hurricane

I remember when you dropped your hoodie

We were running red lights to escape the day

Growing old is just like coffee

It stains the carpet and my teeth

I won't be sad when I wake tomorrow

And see you took my favorite mug

And here we are Thursdays, dropping our masks off

Looking for potholes to swim inside

Maybe we've gone far enough

Maybe it's time to say goodbye

I looked up and down the hallway

You were stumbling home from an empty room

I took the car keys from the table

Packed the guitar and the broom
