Christmas Eve

A silver blanket spreads into the night

Distant sounds of bells and laughter

Plastic joy and light

Past floor plan variations

More or less the same

I walk Maurice and a full green bag of shame

Giant inflatable Santa Clauses smile and wave

As we head back through the snow

To the dark end of the lane

Where Me and Maurice

We’re building a hole

The yard’s on a freeway

We don’t know where it goes

Santa Monica maybe

Or all the way to the North Pole

Winter sun is rising

Blurry and bizarre

Last night’s air pump Santas

Are all face up in their yards

Frozen and deflated

Hungover and sad

Do they remember Christmas Past
