We were brushed by the shadow of an aeroplane

You said one day you'd leave and you'd not be seen again

You had that look of calm about your face

An easy charm that weathered storms and took you to first place.

 

He was a kid who never cried

He kept his friendships left untied

He never really needed me

I remember hanging in the old arcade

While we played fools you'd write down jewels upon a page

You spoke of writers like Jean Paul and Jean Genet

When we were lost for words you'd know just what to say.

 

He put his mark upon a wall

Exquisite hand, not any scrawl

And we were all amazed to see

Running in the streets now...

 

When I think back on how we use to be:

An old brigade, a street parade, ragged company

I'd watch you graze a wall, deep in thought but grave

Us in the usual uproar and you in a literary haze.

 

I still think of him this way

A spark that made this man today

And when I speak he's what I hear

A line from him to me is clear

I hope he too remembers me
