The Thaw

The long way north to release them all

Among the earth, they go

Break free from the ice that entangles the world

An ancient curse above

The harder the ground, the lower the fall

A wound upon the bone

Like sand in the gale, they scatter away

The rays of the sun where all has begun

The waters overflow

These broken shells: their mortal remains

The shatter of the form

Once you could embrace them touching the air

The sand returns to stone

The layers of ice that cover the skin

Finding a way to emerge from within

Carrying the weight of the world
