Passing Through

Joanie was a dreamer

And outgrew this little town

She couldn’t wait to spread her wings and fly

Bobby had his roots in that ground

And loved her with all he had

He believed she’d settle down if he gave her a little time

But the road was in her soul

She had the hardest hand to hold

Joanie only went back home

When the dream was runnin dry

Just to be in Bobby’s arms

But when the morning came

He’d find her long gone

And it would break poor Bobby’s heart

She’d say “You know I love you,

But I can’t stay, I’m only just passing through”

I’m only just passing through

A few years passed on

She stopped coming to town

Bobby finally moved on with his life

When the dream was gone, Joanie came back home

To an older little town

A boy answered the door this time, he had bobby’s eyes

The boy said “Ma’am Can I help you?”

She said “that’s ok, I’m only just passing through”
