Things I Learned (Or Failed to Learn) in Therapy

Sometimes I feel like an automaton

Performing functions for consumers all day long

I understand that things need to get done

But sometimes that makes me feel like an automaton

Once upon a time I made up a story

I was the hero and you were there too

Now I'm sad cos the story's not true

I've thought these thoughts a thousand times before

Did they make me happy? No

The opposite, the opposite I know

Is it likely that this time

There's one weird trick for me to find

To make everything go my way?

Well no, but I suppose

I'll do it anyway

It's all too easy to slip upon the slope

And poison a well of acceptance with just a drop of hope

I'm grateful for my blessings, every one

But just one hint of fantasy and I'm undone
