Introduced as a leader of Brooklyn’s drill music scene, 22Gz—born Jeffrey Alexander—quickly became a prominent figure in the genre.
∙ 22Gz is widely credited with kick-starting Brooklyn drill music with his 2016 breakout single “Suburban,” influencing such artists as the late Pop Smoke, Sheff G, and Fivio Foreign.
∙ In 2018, popular hip-hop artist Kodak Black personally signed him to his own label and was later featured on 22Gz’s 2019 hit mixtape, The Blixky Tape.
∙ NME included his 2019 single “Suburban, Pt. 2” on their 2020 list of the best New York drill songs.
∙ The 2020 LP Growth & Development was his first work to chart, peaking at No. 12 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums listing.
