Sydney native Samantha Poulter, a.k.a. Logic1000, didn’t discover house music until 2017, when she was 30 years old, but she wasted little time making a career out of it. By 2018, she had flipped her dubstep and garage influences into the party-starting tracks of her self-titled debut EP, laying the foundation for the anthemic style of peak-time tunes for which she would become known. Before long, she was remixing acts like Major Lazer and Christine and the Queens, and Four Tet was playing her tracks at Coachella. Since moving to London and then Berlin, she’s refined her take on classic house, sinking into smoother, moodier vibes that recall the glory days of Chicago deep house. Her definitive songs, like 2021 standout “What You Like,” featuring UK singer yunè pinku, combine propulsive beats and bass with emotional melodies and dreamy atmospheres. Taken together, they signal an artist with her feet on the ground and eyes on the stars.
