Marco Paulo was a major Portuguese pop star and television presenter. To launch his career in the late '60s, he had help from his teacher, singer Corina Freire, whose connections led to an invitation to perform on a regional Portuguese music program. That appearance quickly earned him invitations for repeat performances and even an offer to record. Festival appearances and a duet with recording star Simone de Oliveira at the height of her career paved the way for Paulo to become a national figure. His breakthrough hit, 1980's "Eu Tenho Dois Amores," announced his arrival as a major star. During his 30 years on the EMI label, Paulo rose to become Portugal's most recognizable pop male vocalist. His 2007 production Marco Paulo landed a spot in the Top 20 on Portuguese charts. Paulo had released more than 70 albums by the time of his death in 2024 at age 79.
