France's Orchestre de Cannes is an active regional group, attracting internationally prominent guest artists and conductors and maintaining vigorous youth outreach programs. The Orchestre de Cannes was formed in 1975 by conductor Philippe Bender. In 2022, when the orchestra received the Orchestre national en région designation, it officially became the Orchestre national de Cannes. Bender remained chief conductor for more than 30 years; he was succeeded by Wolfgang Dörner and then Benjamin Levy, who ascended the podium in 2016. In 1995, the orchestra made its recording debut under Bender, performing André Caplet's Le Miroir de Jésus. In 2016, it issued a pair of albums under Dörner, covering light music by Daniel-François-Esprit Auber and Joseph Lanner. In 2022, the orchestra released the album Croisette: Opérettes des Années Folles.
