Über Panteón Rococó
Panteón Rococó is one of Mexico’s longest-running and most popular ska bands, founded in 1995 during the height of the genre’s third-wave revival.
∙ The group formed in high school and named themselves after the 1985 drama El cocodrilo solitario del panteón rococó by Mexican playwright Hugo Argüelles.
∙ After gaining a following with the 1997 demo Toloache Pa´mi Negra, they released their debut album, A la Izquierda de la Tierra, in 1999.
∙ They earned their first Top 40 hit on Billboard’s Mexico Espanol Airplay chart with the 2014 stand-alone single “Viernes de Webeo.”
∙ A proudly political band, they are vocal supporters of Mexico’s Zapatista movement and are known for playing labor union events and student protests.
∙ In 2020, Panteón Rococó celebrated their 25th anniversary by releasing “Sobreviviré,” a Spanish-language rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 disco smash, “I Will Survive.”
