Perfume Genius is the stage name of indie pop artist Michael Hadreas, an award-winning singer-songwriter whose adventurous style includes piano ballads, glam rock, synth-pop, and more.
∙ Early in his career, he earned critical acclaim for the melodic pop minimalism and emotionally vulnerable lyricism of his 2010 album, Learning, and 2012’s Put Your Back N 2 It.
∙ Too Bright, his breakthrough Top 10 LP from 2014, featured an expansive production and instrumental palette from Portishead’s Adrian Utley (Marianne Faithfull, Torres).
∙ He contributed vocals to the dual-language collaborative single “Jonathan,” from French synth-pop singer Christine and the Queens’ 2015 self-titled album.
∙ The hushed acoustic ballad “Normal Song” became his first Top 20 hit, reaching No. 20 on Billboard’s Alternative Digital Song Sales chart in 2017.
∙ His Grammy-nominated 2017 LP, No Shape, appeared in the Top 10 of multiple year-end lists, including those from NPR, Stereogum, and The Independent.
∙ Working closely with multigenre producer Blake Mills (Fiona Apple, John Legend), Perfume Genius crafted his most acclaimed LP to date, Set My Heart on Fire Immediately, in 2020.
