Sarah Louise's experimental folk combines traditional Appalachian folk with compositional tendencies, sepia-toned psychedelia, and elements such as microtonality and drone. After establishing herself as an artful composer and 12-string guitar (fingernail) picker on early releases in the mid-2010s, she introduced her warm, ethereal vocal tone on her singing/songwriting debut, 2018's Deeper Woods, her third full-length. Retaining the haunted, sinuous qualities of her sound and continuing to sing, she further explored texture on 2019's Nighttime Birds and Morning Stars, which swapped her trademark 12-string and song-specific tunings for a standard electric guitar, other acoustic instrumentation, and digital manipulation. Louise is also known as half of the neo-traditional folk duo House and Land. ~ Marcy Donelson
