Leading tubist Velvet Brown has been active internationally as a performer and educator. Brown served on the faculties of Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Ball State University in Indiana. She released her debut album, Velvet Brown, Tuba, in 1999. She serves as principal tubist of the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra and the Altoona Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania. In 2023, Brown released an album of works by Barbara York, Roger Kellaway, John Stevens, Meyer Kupferman, and Drew Bonner. Since 2003, Brown has been on the faculty at Penn State University, where she has risen to the rank of Distinguished Professor.
