Crooked Colours’ slinky, soulful approach to dance music is all too organic, with songs that glide naturally along with Philip Slabber’s pleading vocals. With its soothing mantra “I flow through,” the Fremantle act’s 2017 single “Flow” eventually achieved platinum sales in Australia, as did the next year’s softly percolating “Do It Like You.” Teamups with rapper Ivan Ooze and Ladyhawke saw Crooked Colours flirt with EDM and synth-pop respectively, while Slabber’s 2021 guest spot on Hayden James’ “Rather Be with You” added romance and vulnerability to dependable club mechanics. When Slabber decided to move forward as the project’s sole member in 2025, he announced the new era with “I Can’t Forget You,” a confiding cowrite with The Presets’ Julian Hamilton. As with other Crooked Colours creations, it establishes a strong emotional connection before gradually ratcheting up the BPM.
