Alpha
Playlist - 100 Songs
Alpha is a space for redefining the meaning of a woman’s power. Power doesn’t have to be about fighting, standing up, or changing history. The power of these artists lies in their existence. From there flows truth, authenticity, vulnerability, nuanced representation. This week, Florence + the Machine return with “Everybody Scream,” the title track from their upcoming album—out this Halloween—that explores lead singer Florence Welch’s struggles with fame. “But look at me run myself ragged/Blood on the stage/But how can I leave you when you’re screaming my name?” she sings. Welch explains that her fears drove the song’s creation. “It’s a strange thing: It’s interesting because it’s also what the song is about, which is about being an artist, and also being someone who’s kind of stressed sometimes about being visible or being out in the world, and who finds it kind of overwhelming to put out work,” she tells Apple Music. Enter Alpha now and add it to your library to keep in touch with the women making music on their terms, uplifting one another and challenging notions through the simple matter of being. Now, that’s real power.
