The multitalented Narada Michael Walden rose to fame in the mid-’70s as a drummer for jazz fusion giants like Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report. But he was also a gifted singer, songwriter, and producer. He combined pop and R&B on his 1977 debut single, “Delightful,” with subtle jazz shadings showing hints of his other musical life. Many more dance-floor delights followed, like the disco stomp of his breakout 1979 R&B hit “I Don’t Want Nobody Else (To Dance With You).” Adding a dash of new jack swing to its groove, Walden’s 1988 No. 1 dance hit “Divine Emotions” underlined his ongoing ability to move with the times.
