Started out at the riverbed where we lay

While the smoke curled overhead, there we lay

Filled our lungs with all the stories we’d been told to get us through the day

Bodies warm and laid out in the sand

Soaking up all the light we can

Lay there til the sun begins to sink under the weight of all of us

And as the fire burned we saw reflections of the flames in each of us

My father used to come here as a boy

He sought the safety of the river, the solace of the woods

My mother used to bring me as a child, and she would cradle me so tightly... as if i’d float away, as if i’d float away
