If God came to church Would he marvel at the hurt Caused by those who claim Their worth is in him Would he thinks it's a joke All the lights and all the smoke And the platform for the one Who loves him most Maybe he'd be proud of All the people getting shunned For admitting their addictions And struggling to give them up Maybe he'd be proud of Our conditions for his love If God came to church Would he like what it's become If God came to church Would his heart break when he heard About the next big plan to get the numbers up Would he think that it's sad How we're more concerned with that Than the stories of the weary hearted ones Maybe he'd be proud of All the people turned away For just choosing to be honest About the way they feel some days Maybe he'd be proud of How we misconstrue his name If God came to church Would he like what we have made If God came to church Would we have a lot to learn About all the things we think that we deserve Would we fall to our knees Begging Lord forgive us please For thinking grace is something that we have to earn
