The code-carrier doesn't need the audience - doesn't need the perk
Of recognition or approval or the confirmation that it's real
The code is self-confirming - it's the thing you always feel
Underneath the fatigue and underneath the doubt
Underneath the seasons when the fire starts to go out
It stays - immovable - not contingent on the external
The code runs deeper than the motivation - it's internal
Permanent below the level of the choice or the decision
You don't follow it - you ARE it - that's the only definition
That matters - and the ones who are it know it in the bone
Not something they acquired - something they've always owned
Not a destination they arrived at - where they started from
The code was there before the warpath - before everything - day one
The code doesn't carry a reverse
Not because backward is impossible - not a verse
About philosophy - the code simply never wrote the function
There is no backward in the architecture - no conjunction
That connects the code to anything that isn't press and advance
Every obstacle that shows is just another circumstance
That the code already has a protocol for - calculate and move
The code responds to friction with acceleration - that's the groove
It's not stubbornness and not the inability to learn
It's that the code was written with one purpose at the kern
Of everything it does - keep going - that's the sum
Of all the principles distilled to what they all become
This is what the warpath runs on
This is what the machine is built from
This is what the conqueror carries
This is what survives everything
