Early September, the sun starts to set A beautiful face in the crowd I still remember the moment we met Like something long lost had been found And from that moment, a love grew like I'd never known A friendship, a romance, a passion of whispers and moans Early December, the very next year Having the time of our lives I asked her the question she wanted to hear And then saw the doubt in her eyes And through that winter, the love that had burned now turned cold Looking back now, it's clear to me I should have known It was only a matter of time, a matter of time Until she said goodbye, she said goodbye It was only a matter of time All the king's horses and all the king's men Gave up and said their goodbyes Nothing could put us together again, And she was gone in the blink of an eye Woke up this morning to catch a flight home, Who do I see down the line? Four years and counting since I'd seen that face Four years of wondering why But I walked on by Hoping to find Some peace of mind It's only a matter of time
