It was all highways and sun rays and static

The air was so hot that it glistened

And if our conversation was more civilized, I might have been inclined to listen

But I caught the last part, your feet on the dashboard, all wide-eyed and sincere and

measured

I was tracing the stitching, unflinchingly jagged

One stitch for every letter

I tend to get anxious in wide open spaces

Thought it would help keep me together
