About Christina Fasano
Artist Biography
Portland, OR-native Christina Fasano grew up in a musical household that crossed comfortably into different genres. Her father performed at local nightclubs as a singer and dancer, and her mother sang heavenly hymns with their church choir. Those genres still flavor Fasano's music.
Christina Fasano moved with her family from Oregon to California when she was very small. Before she reached her teens, her family belonged to a Pentecostal Church in Oakland, and she was so impressed by the choir at the church that she dreamed of being a gospel singer in that choir. Her dream changed some over the years, but the part about being a singer always remained true and strong.
At the age of only 12, Fasano put together a little neighborhood band of her own, maybe a first hint to her parents of what was to be. There were a number of other groups over the years, each giving her a chance to polish her music and her stage presence. Acting lessons also helped the latter, as did the parts Fasano won. She took awards for roles in theater stage productions such as The Button, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and The Hitchhiker. Even while acting, though, Fasano kept her music close to her heart with lessons in songwriting, vocal training, and musical theory.
In 1999, Fasano completed work on a stunning debut album, Spiritually Wet. Some of the tracks form this first effort are "Hungry Love," "It's Just a Funk Thang," "The Meltdown," and "Welcome to the Workshop." The album earned good reviews from critics in many top music magazines and is credited as funky pop, rhythmic funk, and completely danceable. ~ Charlotte Dillon
