Known for ethereal, effects treated, trumpet playing, and an otherwordly production style, the prolific Arve Henriksen is in his own league. Like influence Jon Hassell, Henriksen utilizes embouchures, electronic atmospheres, and ambient textures to create a harmonically expressive sound that reflects the natural world and sacred spaces. He is also a member of improv-jazz group Supersilent. On solo recordings, including 2004's influential Chiaroscuro, Henriksen proceeds by instinct as well as skill. 2013's Places of Worship combined improvisation, composition, and environmental strategies to evoke atmospheres of the world's holiest spaces, while 2017's Towards Language offered musical notions of pre-linguistic communication. He also collaborated with Trio Mediaeval on Rímur that year. 2019's The Timeless Nowhere boxed four albums (three previously unissued) recorded over the previous decade. 2021's Uma Elmo was a session with Jakob Bro and Jorge Rossy. 2025's Arcanum was cut in quartet with Anders Jormin, Trygve Seim, and Markku Ounaskari.
