Terry Reid possessed a swaggering and elastic vocal style that proved equal to both the hard rock of the late 60's and the soft rock era of the 70's. On the basis of his 1968 record Bang, Bang You're Terry Reid, he was offered the lead singer spot in Led Zeppelin when they were still known as the New Yardbirds. He turned it down and continued to make records like 1973's The River and 1976's Seed of a Memory which showed off his songwriting skills and powerful vocals. Both records went on to gain underground acclaim in the decades that followed and Reid's reputation grew to the point where he in later years had songs covered by artists like Rumer, collaborated with DJ Shadow, and continued to tour up until his 2025 passing.
