The vocal ensemble Cut Circle uses recent research into historical performance practice to bring Renaissance music to life. Cut Circle was founded in 2003 by Jesse Rodin, who remains the group's director. The group's approach relies on a flexible vocal technique that allows the members to create highly unusual sonorities. Cut Circle takes its name from a sign in Renaissance musical notation, a circle (designating triple meter) with a vertical slash (denoting half-time or a fast tempo). The group has made several recordings for the Musique en Wallonie label, including Josquin: I. Motets et Chansons (2023).
