In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. As a band, we've been together for a long time. When we went to make our first album, we took a whim, made a list of bands we loved, and then reached out to folks who produced their albums. Getting to work with Paul Meany (Mutemath) was a blessing.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Death Cab for Cutie, Plans MUTEMATH, Armistice U2, Achtung Baby I'm a big fan of departure albums. When Bono said U2 set out to chop down The Joshua Tree to make Achtung Baby, I resonated with that feeling. Any time an artist is willing to let themselves try new things, make mistakes, and grow, I listen.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Peace Is Not Escape” This song is the first song in almost a decade to come out, and it holds a lot of meaning for us. We began writing it in 2013, and it has had many changes and revisions since. We finished it remotely whilst living in Nairobi, Houston, and Austin.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? We have many shared memories. As we were working on a song called "Garden Weather," we had a brief moment in 2021 when we were together in the same room. When Emma Bieniewicz's vocal and string demo came in, we knew our music would never be the same.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? One of our driving questions as a band is "How far can you take a dream?" We've already accomplished so much as a group of best friends with day jobs. The only way to top it would be to collaborate with more of our musical heroes (DCFC, U2, Ólafur..)
