About Ike Yard
Artist Biography
In the latter days of New York's no wave scene, Ike Yard purveyed hypnotic, slightly menacing, bass-heavy minimalism as reminiscent of early Kraftwerk as similar to the post-punk of the era. Where peers like Mars explored angularity and dissonance, Ike Yard founders Stuart Argabright, Kenneth Compton, and Michael Diekmann were more entranced by synth experimentation and maddening repetition. Although they recorded a handful of seminal works in the early 1980s, the band broke up soon after, reforming in a slightly different line-up in 2006. The later line-up has been quiet, but recent reissues of the band's early recordings have regenerated interest in a new generation of noise addicts and dance-punkers.
