Hailing from a creative family, composer Justin Hurwitz learned to play the piano at age 6 and began composing music when he was only 10.
∙ Hurwitz and filmmaker Damien Chazelle were roommates at Harvard University, where they performed in a pop band called Chester French and collaborated on their first film.
∙ Hurwitz has scored all of Damien Chazelle’s films: Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Whiplash, La La Land, and First Man.
∙ In addition to his composition work, Hurwitz has written episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The League, and The Simpsons.
∙ He won two Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for his work on La La Land.
∙ Hurwitz learned to play the theremin while working on First Man, and his performance of the instrument is heard in the final score.
