Scottish singer/songwriter Kathryn Joseph released her debut album at the age of 40, and it was awarded the 2015 Scottish Album of the Year prize while drawing comparisons to artists like PJ Harvey and Joanna Newsom. Some 17 years after she was first offered a record deal, Joseph finally capitalized on the raw, bare-bones nature of her compositions with Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I've Spilled for a record of minimal instrumentation but maximum impact, which quickly established her reputation as a singer and songwriter. Her sophomore effort, 2018's From When I Wake the Want Is, was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year, and in 2022, she issued the emotionally charged For You Who Are the Wronged, a semi-conceptual LP about abuse and survival. A fourth album, 2025's dark and brooding We Were Made Prey, was co-produced and co-written with the BAFTA-winning Lomond Campbell.
