The neo-soul duo Floetry combined the singing of Marsha Ambrosius (“the Songstress”) with the spoken-word poetry of Natalie Stewart (“the Floacist”)—to huge success. • Stewart and Ambrosius met playing basketball in London. They began collaborating on music and performing around London in the late ’90s. • After moving to the US in 2000, the duo signed to DreamWorks and released their debut album, Floetic, in 2002. The LP earned positive reviews and went gold. • Floetic includes a bonus demo of the song “Butterflies,” cowritten by Ambrosious, which Michael Jackson recorded for his 2001 album Invincible. Jackson’s version became a Top 20 hit. • Following the release of a live album, 2003’s Floacism “Live”, the group returned with their second studio effort, 2005's Flo’Ology. The single “Supastar,” featuring Common, was a Top 20 dance hit in America. • Floetry split up in 2006. Both members cultivated solo careers before returning for tours in 2015 and 2016.
