Primarily a solo vehicle for Foo Fighters and Sunny Day Real Estate bassist Nate Mendel, Lieutenant make passionate, melodic modern rock. Looking for another outlet to showcase his songwriting, vocals, and guitar skills, Mendel began using downtime between Foo Fighters engagements to record his ideas with Shins' and Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer. The project developed over time, and in 2015 Mendel released Lieutenant's debut album, If I Kill This Thing We're All Going to Eat for a Week, on Dine Alone Records. Produced by longtime Melvins associate, producer/keyboardist Toshi Kasai, the album also featured contributions from fellow Foo Fighter Chris Shiflett, Sunny Day Real Estate's Jeremy Enigk, Helmet's Page Hamilton, and Head and the Heart's Josiah Johnson. ~ Matt Collar
