The origins of indie-pop trio London Grammar can be traced back to the dorms at the University of Nottingham, where vocalist Hannah Reid and guitarist Dan Rothman first met in 2009. ∙ After moving to London and signing with the Ministry of Sound label, they released their debut EP, 2013’s Metal & Dust, and guested on Disclosure’s LP Settle a few months later. ∙ London Grammar’s 2013 debut album, If You Wait, won praise for Reid’s soulful vocals and went Platinum in several countries, peaking at No. 2 on both the UK and Australian charts. ∙ In 2014, they earned their first BRIT nomination and won two AIM Independent Music Awards, and their hauntingly beautiful single “Strong” earned an Ivor Novello Award for Best Song. ∙ “Hey Now,” a track from If You Wait that the band first posted online in 2012, got new life in 2015 when a remixed version was used in a high-end fragrance ad starring Charlize Theron. ∙ Their second LP, Truth Is a Beautiful Thing—which featured production from Paul Epworth and Jon Hopkins—topped the UK album charts in 2017. ∙ Reid teamed up with EDM artist Flume on his 2019 single “Let You Know,” which went Gold in Australia and cracked the Top 20 of Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
Members of London Grammar include, or have included, Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Daniel Rothman.
