Formed by Slayer's Dave Lombardo, Civil Defiance's Gerry Nestler, and War's Francisco "Pancho" Tomaselli, Philm is an experimental post-hardcore group based out of Los Angeles, California. Originally conceived in 2009 by Lombardo and Nestler while Slayer was in between tour dates, the band's sound, self-described as having "rhythmic emotion," is elemental, powerful, and bipolar, playing around with rhythm and atmosphere while making only the slightest nods to the bandmembers' past work. With this kind of raw and expressive sound, it came as no surprise when the power trio signed on with Mike Patton's Ipecac records in 2012, where the band released their debut album, Harmonic, later that year. ~ Gregory Heaney
