SculpturedMusic (birth name: Willy Lubisi) is one of the most prolific producers of South Africa’s competitive house music scene. His love for dance music was ignited by his father, who used to play disco songs in his car while Lubisi was growing up in Spruitview. At around the same time, a neighbour exposed him to Deep House Sounds Volume 1, a 1999 compilation mixed by South African house legend Vinny Da Vinci. SculpturedMusic’s 2014 breakout single “Fast Lane” (featuring seasoned house vocalist Zano) combines strong songwriting and vocals with a percussive groove, colorful keys, and lush pads. It’s an approach the musician has maintained over a consistent stream of deep, soulful releases.
