A New York City-based African-American heavy metal trio from the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, Unlocking the Truth comprise Malcolm Brickhouse, Jarad Dawkins, and Alec Atkins. They became YouTube sensations after passersby began uploading their Times Square performances to the popular video-sharing website. The trio made headlines in 2014 after inking a $1.8 million contract with Sony that required New York State Supreme Court approval due to the fact that the members, all of whom were then in middle school, were underage. The deal with Sony eventually proved too much of a headache for the young headbangers, who walked away from the contract in early 2016 and released their debut album, Chaos, independently. ~ James Christopher Monger
