About Virginia To Vegas
Virginia to Vegas—the stage name of Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer Derik John Baker—makes upbeat, hyper-catchy indie-pop songs laced with sadness
• Baker was born in Virginia and raised in Ontario, Canada. He started Virginia to Vegas as a project for a college business class. It was originally a duo—the other guy was from Las Vegas.
• He was discovered on YouTube by Wax Records executive Jamie Appleby and signed to the label in 2013.
• Virginia to Vegas’ 2013 debut single, “We Are Stars,” featuring Alyssa Reid, was certified platinum in Canada.
• In 2016, Virginia to Vegas released his debut album Utopian. The single “Lights Out,” which interpolates Rockwell’s 1984 classic “Somebody’s Watching Me,” also went platinum in Canada.
• Virginia to Vegas released two EPs in 2020: a constant state of improvement and don’t wake me, i’m dreaming.
