The Black Crowes occasionally ditched their earthy hard rock for cosmic psychedelia. Their cover of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” comes complete with kaleidoscopic vocal effects and backward guitars, while “Greasy Grass River” is acid rock that rides a loping jazz beat. But their trippiest piece has to be “Young Man, Old Man,” a space-funk voyage boasting voodoo percussion and a fat, hypnotic bass thump.
