Born Kwadwo Adu Genfi Amponsah in London in 1993, Kojey Radical has become one of that city’s chief synthesizers of seemingly disparate sounds, distilling the essences of grime, beat poetry, and various other styles into something truly singular. Though he releases music slowly compared to the breakneck pace that became the norm for artists of his generation—he dropped a quartet of EPs over six years, beginning with 2014’s Dear Daisy: Opium, before his full-length debut, 2022’s Reason to Smile—the songs that do arrive are brimming with invention, virtuosic at every turn.
