Thundercat's funky basslines stretch like fondue, much to the benefit of the artists who've coaxed him into the studio. His instrument pops and coils on Kendrick Lamar's “Wesley's Theory,” gifting it with a groovy bounce, and his speedy plucks help power the sci-fi electronics of Flying Lotus' “Mmmhmm.” He proves his jazz chops, meanwhile, with some nimble playing on Kamasi Washington's dizzying, 12-minute epic “Change of the Guard.”
