Texas troubadour Ryan Bingham got his introduction to the world at large via the dusty, bittersweet ballad "The Weary Kind," the theme song for the 2009 film Crazy Heart, about a fictional outlaw-country singer/songwriter. But Bingham's gritty voice brought evocative alt-country to life both before and long after that film, with sounds like the Western stroll of "Nobody Knows My Trouble" and the brash slash-and-stomp of "Bread & Water." Bingham goes for full-on blues-rock—complete with crunchy guitars and soulful organ—on “Top Shelf Drug.”
