Legendary funk band Booker T & The MG's are one of the most influential forces in Memphis soul. Their landmark releases like Green Onions and Soul Dressing helped popularize the burgeoning Southern sound of the early-'60s soul scene. But the group was even more prolific as the house band for Stax Records. There, they backed icons like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and The Staple Singers on literally hundreds of tracks. Even today, they are known as quite possibly the best cover band of all time, putting a funky spin on artists like Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles.
